Questions people ask about Christian counselling
Short answers, and a longer read where we have one.
Start with what you need help with, the language you want to speak in, and whether you want to meet in person or online; the filters above narrow the list by each. Then read how each counsellor works, and ask about their training, which differs from person to person. You can send a counsellor a question before you book, and it is fine to try someone else if it does not feel right.
Pray.sg lists Christian counsellors in Singapore on this page, each reviewed before listing, with the areas they work in, the languages they speak, how they meet and any fee. Many churches also offer pastoral counselling to their own members, so it is worth asking your pastor too.
It depends on the counsellor. Some serve free through a church, some ask for a donation, and others charge a set fee.
Any fee is shown before you book and is paid directly to the counsellor. Pray.sg takes no commission.
There is no one official list, but four are often named. Biblical counselling works mainly from Scripture. Pastoral counselling is given by a pastor or church leader. Christian counselling joins trained counselling methods with the Christian faith. Christian psychotherapy is given by a clinically trained therapist who is a Christian. If it matters to you, ask a counsellor which way they work before you book.
A Christian counsellor brings your faith into the conversation. They may draw on Scripture and prayer, and they will understand if questions about God are part of what you are carrying. A regular counsellor may use similar training without that faith, and many will respect it even if they do not share it.
Be careful if a counsellor rushes or shames you, pushes you to share more than you are ready to, makes your decisions for you, or talks mostly about themselves. Asking you for money beyond the agreed fee, for a friendship or relationship outside the sessions, or to keep secrets from your family or church are red flags too. You can stop at any time, and you can tell Pray.sg.
